Yonsei International Summer School Internship Program Successfully Concludes, Offering 80 Students Worldwide Firsthand Experience in Korea’s Industry and Research Sectors

- Seventeen Korean Companies and Research Institutions Participate, Offering Hands-On Projects Aligned with Students’ Academic and Professional Interests

The Office of International Affairs successfully concluded the 2026 Yonsei International Summer School (YISS) Internship Program.

Each year, YISS welcomes more than 2,000 students from over 70 countries, providing an international experience that combines academics and culture through a wide range of courses, Korean cultural experiences, and extracurricular activities during the summer term.

The YISS Internship Program is designed to enable international students to continue their studies at Yonsei University while gaining hands-on experience at companies and research institutions in Korea. Over approximately eight weeks, students work as interns in fields related to their academic backgrounds and interests, applying the knowledge and skills they have developed at university to real-world professional settings while gaining firsthand exposure to Korean organizational culture and workplace environments.

This year, a total of 17 companies and research institutions participated in the program, with approximately 80 students selected through application screening and interviews. Divided between research and corporate internships, students worked alongside industry professionals and researchers at organizations aligned with their academic disciplines and interests, contributing to a variety of projects.

Participating students highlighted the opportunity to combine academic study with practical work experience as one of the program’s key strengths. Islamyaat Bakre, a student at the University of California, Berkeley, said, “I am considering pursuing my career in Korea in the future, so I joined the YISS Internship Program because I wanted to experience life and the work environment in Korea firsthand.” Adaolisa Agbakwu, a student at Harvard University, said, “I wanted to step outside my familiar environment and take on a new challenge,” adding, “What makes YISS especially appealing is the opportunity to experience both academics and an internship at the same time.”

Yonsei University will continue to expand its partnerships with Korean companies and research institutions through the YISS Internship Program, providing students from around the world who come to Yonsei with broader opportunities to experience Korea’s industry and research sectors firsthand beyond the classroom.
